LAUER FAMILY HISTORY
O |
ur
earliest know ancestor using the Lauer surname (click to see family crest
and read history of surname) was Heinrich Lauer (click to see descendants of
Heinrich), born
before 1663. With Christina (her last name is unknown,
she was born before 1667) they had a son Johann Niclass Lauer.
They lived in Lambsborn, Germany.
Johann Niclass Lauer remained in Lambsborn and with Anna Catharina
Margaretha Minnhardt (she was born before 1700) had a son Georg Lauer. Georg and Maria Elizabetha Theobald settled in her hometown of
Hutschenhausen, Germany. Their son
Johann Phillip Lauer married Francisca Rauber.
While working in the city
of Lauterbourg, Bas Rhin, Johann and Francisca had a son Franz Ludwig Von
Lauer (1801 - 1875); Franz was born (click to see translation of
his birth certificate) January 12, 1801. Franz grew
up in Alsace territory, a disputed area on the border of France and
Germany. He served in both the French
and German Armies. In 1979, a biography
on Franz's life was included in book called Gasconade County History,
Owensville Missouri. Click this to read what was said there.

ranz,
a great great grandson of Heinrich, was the first of our Lauer ancestors to come
to America. In America, Franz started
using the English version of his name -Francis Louis Lauer. In the picture above he is with his third
wife Catherine. Franz came to Missouri
around 1836 and settled in the Roark Township area of Hermann Missouri. At that time, this area was the exclusive
domain of the German Settlement Society
of Philadelphia. Wealthy settlers
could purchase shares in the society which would entitle them to land when they
arrived. No such share could be found
at the Missouri State Archive for Franz.
He appears to have worked a few years before his first land purchase in 1840. Franz along with his sons Louis, Charles,
and Stephen served in the Union Army during the Civil war.
