(Translation from the German entry)

Today the 22d day of Month Nivôse in the 9th Year of the French Republic (this translates to: 12 January 1801 in the modern calendar) came in front of me civil officer of the town hall Carl Friedrich Trauth, in LAUTERBOURG, Bas Rhin, elected to write down the records of the citizens; 3 p.m.

JOHANN PHILIPP LAUER, burgher and administrator of the Fortification of this city, and declared that his wife: FRANCISCA RAUBER, legitimate, gave birth yesterday at 3 PM to a son who received the name of FRANCOIS LOUIS (Franz Ludwig); this declaration was made in presence of witnesses Stephan Rottenmann1 sergeant of this town, aged 50, and Jacob Hauck, merchant here aged 40 who undersigned the present entry with me civil officer and the father of the child Johann Philipp Lauer, on the day named above.

 Note: LAUTERBOURG is near the Rhine, north of ALSACE, on the German border, arrondissement is WISSEMBOURG, district is Lauterbourg.

It was fortified by Vauban in the 18th century; the King and later the Republic had these fortifications worked on and surveyed by officers or civil agents.
