 FRANZ LUDWIG VON LAURE (LAUER)

Francis (Frank) Louis Lauer was among the early settlers of Gasconade County, Missouri, coming here in 1836. He was born February, 1801, at Strassburg, France of Baden, Alsace Lorraine area, during the reign of Napoleon. This area, on borderline between France and Germany, was sometimes part of Germany. Francis studied at seminary, was well educated and a soldier in old country. He married his first wife there. After coming to America, Francis was farmer near Little Berger. Roark Township, Gasconade County, Missouri, where all but oldest of his eleven children were born. He became citizen of United States in 1845. Francis bought and sold real estate in Hermann, Missouri, in 1840's and 1850's.

 Francis married second wife Merianna Mansart from Strassbourg. Prussia (Germany or France whichever country claimed it at that time). His oldest son, Francis Jr. was born 1835 in Baden area of first or second wife. Francis Sr. served his adopted government three years during Civil War.

Francis' second son. Louis. was born December 4. 1839. Merianna was his mother. Louis was a private in Co. K (In-fantry) from 1864 to 1865 in Civil War. He was farm laborer as a young boy. He married Fredericka Klages in 1868 who came to America at age 14 from Hanover. Germany (Lippe Detmold). Louis was farmer moving to Montgomery County in 1880. Their seven children were Annie. John. Mary, Aleida, Bernard. Joseph. and Elizabeth.

Charles, the third son. was born 1844 and served four years in Civil War being wounded three times. He married Louisa Wittman in 1868. Charles was section boss on Missouri Pacific Railroad, farmed in Gasconade County. and later moved to St. Louis. Missouri, where he worked at cutting monuments. His seven (or more) children were Emma. Stephan, Kate. Pauline, Ida. Clara. Otto. and others.

Stephan or Christopher was born 1845.

Francis and Merianna's next child died as an infant. After death of Merianna. Francis married Mrs. Seib (formerly Mrs. Becker nee Anna Katherina Doerr). Katherine was born at Hesse Dormstadt. Germany.

Francis and Katherine's first child was Rosalie. born in 1848. She married Julius Koeller who was a farmer. Their three children were Clara, Fredrick, and Rev. John Koeller. Rosalie married second time to Frederick Flake. They lived at Little Berger and had three children. Oscar. William, and Edward.

Victor. Francis' seventh child. was born 1849 and married Louisa Ruediger. They lived on farm in Gasconade County. He married second time to Bertha Moblair, a sister of Louisa. He moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma. where he operated his large blacksmith shop. They had six children. Sophia, Alma. George. Edmund. Flora. and Clara.

Melanie was born 1851 and married in 1870 to Fredrick Sunderworth. They lived in Bates County. Missouri, and had four children, Julius, Albert. Elizabeth, and Johannab.

Felix Wilhelm Sr.. born 1852, married Maria Magdelena Mueller in 1878. Felix was farmer at Little Berger. Missouri. They had eight children. Rosalie. Magdalena. Felix Jr.. Wilhelm. Albert. Christian, Herman. and Edna.

Adelheid was born 1865 and married Louis Gehlert in 1878. She worked in Home House Hotel in Union, Missouri, and Louis owned a blacksmith shop there. He was a John Deere Equipment Dealer and Sheriff of Franklin County, Missouri. Their five children were Ida. Eddie, Clara, Flora, and Oscar.

Elisa the eleventh child of Francis was born 1858 and married Henry Winland in 1884. He was a farmer near Hermann. Missouri. They had three children. Sophia, Elizabeth. and John.

Francis had over 600 known direct descendants to 1978. He died 1875 and Katherina died in 1877.
